Parenting the Inner Child...

Interview with Jane Rowan 04/21 by Breakfree to Success | Blog Talk Radio

Have you felt sometimes that fulfillment is very elusive for you to achieve? Have you felt that you seem to be sabotaging your plans the moment that you feel you are about to reach it? Have you felt criticizing your work or activity rather than appreciating it when someone happens to like it?

Then you are not alone. Many have been through that kind of experience and have been struggling to be free from such misery. It is not because you are unworthy of some achievement or happiness. It is because of the childhood training that we have learned from our parents.

This training is more of identification or compliance. Identification is when we live like the model parent - somewhat a copy-cat. And compliance is when we do as we are told -- even if it is against our interest and benefit.

So of this parental training later becomes our internal parent which serves to criticize our actions if it is not satisfactory or appears to be pleasant to us.

To be free from this parental control -- even if after the parent is long gone, we need to re – parent ourselves as if we are gain small children to correct the wrong practices taught to us since we were kinds.

Tunog ng Kulog

Tunog ng Kulog
(Sagot sa tula ni Therese “Lahat Napapatula kung Langit Lumuha” 2)

Nakakabingi ang katahimikan
Katahimikang inaasam – asam
Sa mundong ibabaw
Sa mga taong nais abutin
Abutin ang rurok ng
Pinakamataas na bundok
Bundok na puno ng pakikibaka
Walang tiyak ng patutunguhan
Hindi alam ang kahihinatnan
Kung ang tuwid na daan
Ay makakarating sa patutunguhan
Walang pakialam, kahit sino
Masagasaan, basta ba makamit

Ang mithiin, kaya napuno
Ang sanlibutan ng samu’t – saring
Ingay, hindi alintana
Kahit kanino, mapatid kaya?
Hanggang sa kapusin
Malagutan ng hininga,
Hindi man lang makuhang pagmasdan
Kahit sila ay nakaharang sa daan
Hindi man lang makuhang lumingon
Basta lang ba aabot sa patutunguhan,
Kahit karapatan niyurakan,
Walang nakakaalam sa abang kalagayan
O sadya bang nagbingi – bingihan
O, kay lupit ng tadhanang sinapit…

Hanggang sa umugong
Ang nakakabinging tunog
Tunog na dala ng kulog
Nahihintakutan laha
Sa isip ano kaya ang kasunod?
Napahiyaw ang nais sumigaw
Nabuhayan ng loob
Pati ang tinakasan ng ulirat
Nanunuot ang ligayang dulot
May sumilay na ngiti
Mula sa pisngi, ng mapupulang langit
Tiyak papawi, sa pighati
Sa kaibuturan ng puso
Ng bawat nilalang
May kumakatok
Ang dumadagundong, nakakatuliro
ANG KULOG…

Things to Remember in Analyzing a Poem

How to Analyze A Poem
In order to understand poetry better, here are ways to unlock the world of verses in order to unlock its wonderful world:
(I am using an original poem from me as basis)

My archangel
Trumpets  blaring, echoes resounding
Noises resonating, mind wandering
A lone voice reminding, from the desert parching
Through arid lands plodding, for the rain waiting
Though on its chase unending, it doesn’t fail reminding

Carnal thoughts may be unfulfilling, but it is fleeting
True bliss enlivening, worldly desires denying
Only then in attaining, eternal delight is pure and satisfying
My Archangel is trailing, of this world’s desires unyielding
For self pleasure is not gratifying, but unselfish love is lasting….

A.   Persona – the speaker of the poem.
Here the persona is a friend who is grateful to his/her friend.
B.    Form – there are several methods an author might use – depends on the style of the author.
a.     Couplet – it consists of two lines per  stanza
b.      Quartet – consists of four lines.
c.       Cinquain – a peom consists of five lines per stanza
d.     Sestet – consists of six lines.
e.      Octave – consists of eight lines
f.       Sonnet – although this is a kind of poem it consists of fourteen lines all in all.
g.     Free Verse – it does not follow any form, meaning there is no measurement.
In the poem Archangel I am using cinquain.
C.    Imagery – it pertain to the five sense in which the poem leaves an impression to create mental images.
The images created from this poem are:
Trumpets blaring – sense of sound
True bliss – sense of feeling/touch
From the desert parching – sense of taste

D.     Poetic Devices – are devices used by the author to develop his/her poem.
Note: some of the above mentioned method are still part of the devices, yet I focus on the three for emphasis.
a.     Alliteration – the repetition of the initial consonant sounds.
b.      Assonance – the repetition of the same vowel sounds.
c.       Onomatopoeia – the use of words which imitate sounds.
d.     Rhyme – the use of same ending sounds
The devices used by the author are:
Onomatopoeia – trumpets blaring
                     Echoes resounding
Rhyme –  resounding – wandering
             Parching – waiting
E.    Figurative Languages –
Simile – a comparison of two unlike objects with the emphasis of “as”, like”
Metaphor – a comparison of two unlike objects with the absence of as, like.
Personification – giving an inanimate object as if it were human.
Irony – a statement which is actually a reverse of its true intention.
Hyperbole – an exaggeration for special effect.
Here are some of the figurative languages used in the poem My Archangel:

Through arid lands plodding, for the rain waiting – hyperbole
Carnal thoughts may be unfulfilling, but it is fleeting – irony

Good luck! Enjoy reading poetry…

On Loneliness

On Loneliness

You're like a thief
Snatching my happiness away
You're like the cloud
Wiping the sun's smile eventually
You're so cruel
Crushing my heart into pieces
You're like the Angel of Death
Wreaking havoc wherever you go...

Leave me
I implore you
Please put this heart of mine to rest
I don't want to feel the emptiness
I don't want to go on like this...

I want the sun to shine
Upon my face
I want the smile to show
Upon my lips
Free me, release me...

Only then can I say
That life is worth living
If you are still in me, with me
I know bliss is elusive
So the only respite for this...
Is the time when you
Open the cage
And let me flutter my wings...

IN RESPONSE TO LONELINESS
(from a poet to a poetess)(ADV)

If I were like the thief
who snatched the brief...
moments or like the clouds
that shreded a sun’s smile,
I would not crash
a heart in pieces,
fetch a death’s disease,
or tarry on a toxic mile.

For as I leave I left
untouched, bereft
from right to left
the words untold
in deep accord
while empty hands parlayed
a struggling fray, allayed
in verses bleak to reach
perchance to teach
the radiant glow of souls.

Smile, my friend and
let this beam, this light
descend upon your noble life
as we pass through the strife,
of nebulous arrays conveyed
in thoughts we dare not say.
Your life is worth a living lived
to which your freedom strongly cleaved,
the cage we think was locked and closed
is nothing else than thoughts imposed.

Bliss and peace are in your hands
my dear, so let those wings
bring forth a mystic wand,
flutter freely through the lands
and let your freedom sing
the magic of your strand.

So as we smile or sing or cry
the joy we have should not go by,
for poems are penned by fools like me
but only God can make us free.

Here I am Friend

Here I am Friend

In my loneliness
I think of you
In my blissfulness
There were you

These past days
I always reminisce
The times that we are together
The smiles and the laughter

And now I seem to be
Flotsams in the sea
In which the waves carry
Wherever they take me

What I can’t understand
The emptiness I feel inside
For you may have forsaken
And you may have changed then

My only wish for you
Wherever you may go
In the city of lights
You’ll continue your flight

The success that you aim
That has always been your dream
In the hope of life’s improvement
That’s why you left my friend

I wish you will bear in mind
The place you left behind
And this forlorn friend
That misses you and always has been…

Ako Kini Higala

Sa akong paginusara
Gihandom ka
Sa akong pagmaya
Gihanduraw ka

Sa mga adlaw nga nilabay
Ako kanunay nagsubay – subay
Sa mga panahon nga gikauban ka kanunay
Kung diin ikaw nagtalidhay

Ug karon ako nahisama
Sa mga gapnod gipasa – pasa
Sa balod gidala – dala
Ug bisan asa mahitugpa

And dili ko mahisabtan
Kanunay naghuot kining dughan
Tingali imo nga gikalimtan
Ug dako kana ug kausaban

Ang bugtong kong panghinaot
Nga sa imong pagsuot – suot
Sa syudad nga magahob
Imo untang makab ot
Ang pangandoy nga tugpaw
Subay sa imong panglantaw
Nga ang imong kahimtang mousbaw
Maong nitalikod ikaw

Hinaut nga dili nimo hikalimtan
Ang imong gigikanan
Ug kining higalang naa sa kasub anan
Tungod kanimo akong gikamingawan….

Ako Ito Kaibigan

Sa aking pagiisa
Iniisip kita
Sa aking pagsasaya
Ikaw ay naaalala

Sa mga araw na nagdaan
Aking binabalik – balikan
Ang mga sandaling tayo’y nagkuwentuhan
At ikaw ay lagging nasiyahan

Heto ako ngayon
Parang yagit na patalun - talon
Tinangay tangay ng alon
Hindi alam saang banda paroon

Ang hindi ko lubos maisip
Bakit dibdib ko’y nagsisikip
Tiyak hindi mo napagtanto
Malaki na ang iyong pagbabago

Ang tanging hiling ko
Na sa iyong paglayo
Sa lungsod na magarbo
Itanim sa iyong ulo

Ang matayog mong pangarap
Para sa buhay na masarap
At alisin ang pamilya sa hirap
Kaya ikaw ay nagpapakahirap

Usal ko’y huwag mong kalimutan
Ang iyong Inang bayan
At ang tunay mong kaibigan
Na maghintay sa iyo mapasa walang hanggan…
